Epic pet on live was better than any 57-60 pet, was a wimp compared to any PoP pet and it did not fare very well even at PoI zone in. As soon as you were able to mem any PoP pet you'd say good bye to poor old epic pet and never use it again

Epic was still more dps than PoP pets when the proc landed. Which was mostly applicable when farming lower level zones, but it still landed in T1 PoP zones. But it was the best pet for pet pulling since it was the right level and had innate run speed.
