This is my first time playing DnD, so I have nothing to compare it to.
I have plenty of fun. I RP'd the cleric but not so much the monk.
One of the guys I played with did play 3.0 and said it was very different.
/shrug
I guess it's the equivalent of someone starting new on EQ Live and it being 'trash' compared to Classic/P99.
