One of the problems with the modern family is that we now shunt off the elderly to facilities instead of having them die at home and having their tallow made into candles like in the old days.
What this means is that the general population is not very aware of what happens when you get to be that age. Children no longer spend extended time with the droolers, that's embarrassing when you're paying some place in Florida to bury that sight.
Now I'm not advocating for some Geriatric Logan' Run - there is no magical age when someone becomes senile. Oliver Wendell Holmes was 90 when he retired from the Supreme Court and as far as I can tell he was pretty aware of what was going on, at least based on his last writings. On the other hand John Roberts is only 65 and we can all plainly see he has lost his motherfucking mind already. So you can never tell.
It's incredible, the human body. So much wonder. One man seventy-four, the other only three and a half years older. In reality decades apart. Trump lives like he's in his 50's meanwhile Biden is already exhibiting cellular senescence.
I'm just really glad we have Kamala Harris as a backup should two unthinkable things happen. Kamala... Kamala?
