It's like that time the red football team wanted to substitute a player in the 4th quarter due to an injury. The ref paused the game indefinitely until it could be decided which teams are playing next year.
Red Coach: "But ref, we earned our playoff spot and we're winning this final game. We just want to make one final substitution because of an injury..."
Ref: "Rules is rules boys - it's the 4th quarter which means next reason is REAL CLOSE *puts hands 6 inches apart* You gotta honor the rules, honor the game, honor the INSTITUTION of football by *check notes*.... making up some BS rule to favor one team over another in spite of the rules, the game, and the institution... and accuse the other team of doing exactly what you're doing..."
