When I was a kid my mom used to tell me this was officially the scariest movie ever made, and I thought it like was a registered fact.
I watched it and was like mom this has nothing on Freddy.
Later i found out she thought it was so scary because she thought it was like, really real and happens all the time, and is like, basically a true story and could happen to any of us lol

In the 70's there was a real public fear about demons. My girlfriend grew up Catholic so it was especially spooky to her, whereas it didn't impact me nearly as much in terms of spookiness.
