You make it seem like those are the only two options, but I say there is at least a third route for people who don't like what you have to say and don't want to "accept your knowledge" (is that a gay pick up line? [had to do it]). Ridiculing you. Ridiculing you is probably the most fun choice, and probably the path that most people will take.
