Melees are terrible in classic. They are slightly less terrible with BIS items compared to average EC trash items you can get decked out in for 1-2k.
Slay wisps, profit. Be only slightly more terrible than top raiders.
Or go cloth and stack that cash to make a super melee twink in Kunark/Velious.
