Actually small update, just killed a Griffon and finally got the stupid eye.
Pro-tip, griffons are crazy strong, I _barely_ could solo one straight up, so we resorted to new tactics: pull griffon to the tower near gypsy camp. Guards hate me, so chug a Cloudy Potion en route. Get guards on griffon -> guards get mauled, but deal about 80% of griffons life (make sure he doesn't get too low, so kill the guards if you need to).
Then its you vs a griffon at like 20% and its easy. Repeat every 6 minutes until you get your eye. The eye will get us our Crafted Vambraces. Way easier to do before you start farming guards, but be careful, even a griffon at 30-35% might steam roll you if you're not high enough level. They hit _insanely_ hard.
