Just guessing, but you probably have it backward. They didn't go to Iran via Europe, they went to Europe via Iran. It's literally the land route from Africa. Iran->Turkey->Greece.
The Ancient Greek Spartans mocked Ancient Iranians for their pale complexion, so the idea has some merit. Many Greeks are of course Bronze Adonis, though there are some snowier varieties too.
Somewhere between ancient and modern times Iran must have had an immigratory invasion of darker types.
