Yea classic solo with a ranger is tough with good gear unless you are fighting close to someone selling vendor arrows and have resistant carpals.
I'd level the ranger and another toon at the same time. Can't get a group, bounce to the other. Maybe drop the groups a note that you're ready to join if you are needed.
