I had the same exact issue. I added the following at the top of my eqclient.ini file and I do not crash any more.
CPUAffinity0=-1
CPUAffinity1=-1
CPUAffinity2=-1
CPUAffinity3=-1
CPUAffinity4=-1
GraphicsDLL9=EQGraphicsDX9.DLL

Would the same be true for an 8-core processor or would you add addtional lines up to CPUAffinity8?
