Being an army vet who was stationed in Panama for several years I understand full well why we call it "the service". That's what it is. Service to others. It has stresses, strains and pulls in many directions, including on the
family of the soldier. And most definitely at a time like this.
The hardest part, is hearing the gun shots at the funeral, and knowing it's for a member of your own family
