Look at the stats. Forget infected vs dead. Look at deaths vs recovered.
More people have died than have recovered so far. While the mortality rate if infected is hovering around 2%, the chance of recovery without dying is less than 50% so far.

I wouldn't read too much into that number tbh, 'Recovered' is a lot harder to define than 'Dead'.
