The regen from your lute is going to heavily outweigh any meager dps you do with weapons even if you aren’t dotting.
Drum Dots with drums not only do over Double dmg with drums but it also drastically boosts the debuffing effect fufils(Mr) flame(FR) frost(Cr), these debuffs allow slows, stuns, nukes to land easier and for full dmg.
If your in a group that you are tanking with no haste and no slows and you have melee in group, twisting regen with lute then swapping in two weapons while you twist your other 3 songs is cool but if you had to choose bw lute for 4song twist or just weapons lute regen lowers downtime and saves healers so much mana it’s silly.
And of course this margin becomes even more significant in velious once cantana is introduced and requires a lute until 55.
PS. Charming seafuries at lvl 57 isn’t impressive.
Nothing in Everquest is impressive. But it proves that I'm experienced with the class and can play it effectively.

I've run lots of royals groups with one healer, no bard, chain pulls and zero downtime. And you can cap people off with a lute during pulls.

I could see chant of flame, chant of frost, DS, and regen with only instruments being better than melee, but you can't do that until level 46 and its still debatable for many reasons. And using buffs with instruments also has potential but I highly doubt its better than meeling with good weapons and haste while still twisting those buffs. If you have math or parses for any of those options then i'd genuinely like to see it. Otherwise we can simply disagree.
