Whatever you do don't can yourself down to like 25% like i see a bunch of idiot shaman doing. Put yourself one round of combat with a mob from frenzy hit point range is really genius stuff.
But ya the phantom ticks are a PITA. especially if you are under 35 and have to hit both the book and med every tick.
optimally you'd want to memorize the tick and always be medding when possible, which would be dancing instead of spamming.
