I've had a good time so far. People are nice but I'm sure I'll run into crazies because crazies have always played these games. I still remember having some guy threaten to "destroy me" because I undercut him on Gold Rods in WoW and later in BC some guild kicked me after some guy flipped out because I didn't want to buy a BOE shield off the AH since me defending myself was "creating drama".
Obviously statistics have shifted some, but I think it's more likely you had an above average experience in the past and are having a below average experience now.

OP, are you a woman? Because usually its a woman who bemoans how toxic everyone else is, and if you know the person you know its really they that are the problem. They are bitches and treat everyone shitty, and when someone gets the nuts to tell them to fuck off they get all flummoxed and act like they are the ones being attacked. Then they desperately search for white knights to come to their rescue (like this post). Not always women, but usually.
