I think there is a three year life span or so on recycle server. A few weeks is not a big deal in the big picture. Start a new toon, not the end of the world. Were you never going to make an alt the entire life of Green? Look at this as one of your alts.
Also, did you have fun leveling this character? If so, it wasn't a waste of time.
