The issue is that it's an old, solved game. If it was new with unknown zem, unknown mechanics, people didn't know about exp penalties and such... it would be a lot different. The concepts themselves are not issues, the issue is everyone knows everything.

Heh... this kinda just gave me an interesting idea. Not sure if people are aware of "randomizers" that people use for SNES game ROMs (the Link to the Past + Super Metroid combination randomizer is something to fucking behold

What if each time an EQ server launched the EXP penalties and bonuses and ZEMs and even the loot were randomized (loot would still need to be tiered by difficulty/level, so CoF isn't dropping from Fippy, etc) so it had to all be figured out again. Could take it a step further and somehow rearrange which zones are connected to which, though that might be too weird.
Could be fun, at least once?
