I started in Sept 99 on Quellious, and Qeynos monk and the place had a lot of people...and again on Nameless when it opened later in 99 and Qeynos area was great with people.
But by mid 2000 or so people had gravitated towards Freeport - and avoided many camps in the karanas (Except bandits and a couple more?)..
For me though, Qeynos area is amazing, and blackburrow is the best newbie dungeon (Crushbone is just trash compared to it, really).

As we are in classic, let me also point out Qeynos creates better, hardened players (the trek from Qeynos to Freeport at early teen levels is a rite of passage :P) compared to the Faydwer trash err players
