You got it, Jib. Actually, I haven't tested this yet, but I remember reading somewhere that the east-west roaming "a giant spider" is a placeholder for 5 named mobs: Mina Glimmerwing, Old Dimshimmer, Queen Nasheeji, Whimsy Larktwitter, and Crookstinger.
