Well the price on blue is based on the assumption no more are going to be available, but population will churn and new players will always want the finite supply.
If green ends up eventually merging into blue (entirely unconfirmed), that limited supply will expand by some amount and the price will presumably drop to match.
I'd guess it's people dumping inventory in advance of that happening, while the prices are at what they are, or it's people planning on moving to green/WoW and looking to cash out.
