No way, dark elves make great enchanters. Hide is one of the best skills!
If you're that concerned about starting stats, at the end of the day you're an enchanter and can turn into whatever you want anyway. But I wouldn't worry too much about those since it's not that out of reach to max your stats with gear in the Velious era.
