As far as people on the net is concerned I don't know you are a US citizen unless I know you. Trump campaign proved members of other countries get involved in the dialogue as if they live here. We seen it with that and nothing is stopping them from doing it with another. If it was truly that upsetting, which it should be, then keep that in mind.
