If you have the nerve, and this isn’t a challenge, the red server is quite fun. My main is 59 and I had very limited EQ experience dated from 2000. You can level. You can find groups, though to be honest that part can be a little scarce until mid 20s, except for a duo from time to time.
However, once you reach that point, the population is consistently present and generally helpful without carrying you to the point of removing the challenge which ultimately makes this game poignant.
I don’t disparage blue; some people simply loathe pvp, but I would say that if it doesn’t make you nauseous nor provoke palpations, it also heightens the payoff. Red has the same pve content, without the long lines which I think detract from immersion. Admittedly some of this is due to low population but some of it is also due to being able to assert your will and push other characters out with threat of death.
The server is not swarming with griefers. You do get some who would love to ruin your day, though in my run to 59, I’ve sincerely suffered maybe three encounters of this. Most simply quench a bloodlust and move on and certainly honor loot and scoot.
I’m in a guild of likeminded people who enjoy the pve and the richness that pvp provides as you feel more capable of defending yourself in a brutal cunning world, with each and every gain.
I challenge that much of what is not to like on blue is cured by red, provided you can handle the excitement of greater danger and purpose.
If anyone decides to join, look to Kajo or Andain or even the level 59 Angeleyes for a welcoming.
