hello everyone
im new to this ever quest game but i have played newer games kind of like it before as final fantasy 14 and world of Warcraft but i wanted to try something different
my sister showed me this game and it looks fun and interesting the old graphics don't really bother me because i play her old playstation a lot
she helped me install it and figure out how to make a account here and i made a character named hadewig she is a wood elf bard and i figured out how to attack and learn the spell i had and find out what level other enemies are.
priest of discord killed me for some reason and he was being attacked by a monster. i got invited to a group but got disconnected and it does take me a while to respawn after i die. the tips said that i would not lose my stuff when i die tell i get to XP lvl 5 but i notice i have to find my things again
is this normal?
anyway im a little confused but excited so if anyone has tips or wants to play (=

First thing you need to get out of your head is this isn't like FF14 or World of Warcraft, those games copied and took a lot of ideas from Everquest and turned their already successful IPs into MMORPGs and in doing so made tons of things easier and more accessible to the average gamer to make $$$.
Point is this game is going to be hard, you'll be lost, confused, and angry at this game at times, and it is supposed to be like that. Good news is this game is different like you wanted.
Bards are way different than the other classes on Classic Everquest, they use songs which don't take mana (except higher level Charm) and keep playing if they can. Other classes have spells which work how you think they would, casting and taking mana. So keep in mind Bards are kind of an exception.
As far as the Priest of Discord killing you, you were using your level 2 song, which is AoE around you, and it attacked him so he killed you. Songs will keep playing every 3 seconds if they don't require a target, sometimes without you noticing

Yellow Gems are Self

Red Gems are Target
Blue Gems are AoE around you
Green Gems are AoE around your target
Orange Gems are waves of damage around your target (and are usually crap here cause classic)
Purple Gems affect the whole group
The message you saw said you won't lose exp till level 5, not your items if I remember correctly, I could be wrong been a long time since I've been on a character that low, regardless you get a corpse locating song at level 4 and most people who are traveling new or confusing areas use /loc to get the coordinates of where they died right before they die. I suggest making a macro with /loc in it that you can spam before you die, but like I said once you are level 4 you can find your corpse easily.
All this is normal Everquest stuff and you'll learn it all along the way, that's the journey

Your sister may or may not know about the
Project 1999 Wiki but it can answer almost every question you'll have about the game between it and these forums, Welcome and be careful out there.
