I’m not saying they don’t drop it, but I’m not completely convinced they do. I killed hundreds of them over the course of my first/second farm and never saw a single piece drop from any of them.

You must have terrible luck then, or we're not talking about the same ones. I only killed 3 of the normal guardians in the CS zone out room per cyclce(using one as a pet), very lazily an hour at a time camping the legs. I had almost a full set of armor by the time I got the piece I wanted, not even counting the duplicate pieces that dropped.
