I use JBoots in outdoor zones and the Rod in indoor zones. The nice thing about the rod is that you can click it from your inventory once you get your epic!

This is what I used as an enchanter until I completed ring 9 (which frees up an inventory slot, because I wear it, and also gives me a junk buff)
