Be aware that most of the enc pet spells from 8-49 are only sold in HHK, so you might want to buy both the level 8 and 12 spells when you get there.
That being said, I don't think I bought an enc pet after the level 12 spell until level 55. I have not even used the level 55 pet once and I've been 60 since May, but I plan to use it for factioning in the future!
