the left: he didn't actually do it and if he did, it wasn't his fault

the right refuses to accept the behavior aligns with their belief set and can't accept the reality that violence occurs on the right. the left refuses to believe that the perp committed the act and then ascribes responsibility elsewhere if proven wrong.
I think the left and right use both interchangeably.

I do notice the right leans more towards "false flag" and the left leans towards "lone wolf/wasn't representing the group".
