In original EQ, like most people, I got familiar with a few zones and always re-leveled new toons in those same zones. Much later on, when I was bored, I went and explored the rest of the world. It didn't have the same feel, since it was all so extremely trivial.
When I first started on p99, one of my main goals was that, this time around, I would hunt in all those zones I had never seen while they were worth something. It's been an amazing journey, and I can say that I've gotten xp in all of classic this time around, and I've made an iksar monk (first iksar, first monk ever for me) so that I can do the same with kunark. Most of the kunark zones I've hunted with my iksar have been for the first time.
I really recommend it, even if twinked, try to xp in zones you don't know like the back of your hand, it really captures the magic of original EQ instead of just being nostalgia.
Deep Paw is fun, kedge is amazing (although massive xp nerf sucks), MM castle is very well done, lower guk has all sorts of quirks both live and dead side, HHK lives up to the hype, runny eye is really creepy, perma is good times, just to name a few places I've taken the time to explore.
The best thing is to find like minded people, and I can say I've been lucky to find many. While I was leveling up, I was doing this so often that I would get tells "so where are we going to today?" from friends.
cheers!
