We have been pitching this group economic populism for decades. They have responded by shelving their economic interests, voting against blacks, immigrants and for the economic status quo.
One guy says "Mexico is going to pay for a wall" and they trip all over themselves to vote for Mr. Trustfunded NY landowner. If Mitt Romney just has it together enough to ignore political elites and hate Mexicans -- he would gotten the vote.
The only light I see is that not as many Democrats fall for the reverse of this. "Let's just shelve our economic issues and work on race stuff" doesn't play as well.
