I would go so far as to say that binary mode works for you, it's totally normal. It's not important to overthink it. You may only run into rough edges around a few "way out there folks" Best not to be entirely upset when these issues and disagreements happens. Likely, most of the time you will never know, and would not ever know unless people make an issue out of it. It takes two people to have a fight, so please don't lay it all on trans-stuff. I am sick and tired of being the target and blamed for all the problems people can't cope with on their own and being used as a political tool. I hope you can appreciate that, but if you don't care, and won't, I have nothing more to really add.
TLDR: I'd personally prefer it if this all just went back down under the radar to personal levels of involvement among enlightened beings in the big scheme of things, and stopped being about cultural warfare and being the purview of politics and scare mongering. On BOTH sides.
The above peoples experiences is similar to my own. There are a lot of extremos out there. They just do what they do. TLDR: Stereotypes are bad.
