For the moment, I can't add more than what I said as I seriously doubt this post is going anywhere. But back on topic, the gap between the two viewpoints is because the two sides are playing completely different games. The casual gamers are playing by a 'everyone should get a fair shot at everything' ruleset and the power gamers are playing by a 'rewards should be directly related to time/effort invested' ruleset.
This has always been the difference in mindsets ever since the beginning of MMORPGs designed in this fashion.
