They knew they were doing shady shit, that's why they were /anon instead of /role to hide their guild tag and quickly conceded when called out.

The reason you go /anon instead of /role is because if people see a top tier guild in a low level zone they know there's something up and it gives other guilds an opportunity to mobilize against you.
And /anon doesn't matter... most non-peasants have /guildstat bound to some key anyways.
