Nature Vs Nurture.

Since you are so keen in using your friend as an anecdote, might I inquire briefly upon your friend's childhood? Can you remember anything about his parents or family? Social status? Income? Was there anything indicating he may have had a bad relationship with his father, or if he was ever touched by a weird uncle, cousin, or father? Was there anything indicating he was particularly closer to the women in his family than the men?

I think that people overplay the notion that many gay people have existed since the beginning of time, and that gays are something that has been around forever. Yes, people had sexual relations with the same sex, there is no doubt about that. It is very likely that Shakspeare had countless sexual relations with men, but he still reproduced and had children. Many imbeciles today claim Shakespeare was some kind of flamboyantly gay man.

Humans love to feel as if they are a part of something. It makes them feel comfortable inside. It makes them feel loved. I think that initially gay culture started as an act of public degeneracy. It was a way to be "weird" or "stick it to the man" no pun intended. A good example of this would be Mick Jagger, Iggy Pop, David Bowie all having sexual relations with each other. Those men had sex with other men solely for the sake of degeneracy, and sexual lust. It wasn't because those men cared romantically about the men they were reaming.
It's not that I am "so keen" to use my friend as anecdote, it's just really the only connection I have to this topic.

To answer you, he indicated nothing traumatic occurred in his childhood that would turn him gay. He never told me that he always spent time around his mom and aunts turning him gay. he never told me he had been abused by a bad uncle thus turning him gay. By all accounts he grew up in a much more stable household than I did, his parents even remained married unlike mine.

I can't ask him more detailed questions because this friendship was one from literally 20 years ago and I lost touch with him quite some time ago.

Anyway, I don't think we know nearly enough to draw concrete conclusions as to what forms our sexuality and why some people are gay. We definitely don't know all of the secrets of science regarding how the human brain works etc.

TL;DR

If a gay man or gay woman says "I was born this way," I won't think differently because there simply is no such proof indicating this is not true.

It's not an insult to science when we lack the science to prove they indeed were not born that way.

What is in someone's brain has nothing to do with a person's physiological body so having a penis and balls doesn't prove that a gay man wasn't born gay.
