I think this does indeed happen more than people realize. I first noticed this in MMORPGs....you ever notice how the most incompetent and pathetic fucks in the guild are the highest status, have the most loot, lots of friends...etc?
What happens when a super fast-rising good player tries to shake things up? Well hes kicked of course. Way too threatening.
Imagine my surprise when I find out this kind of how modern corporations work. Kill the threatening people and promote the dumbasses who you can relay on. They know their a piece of shit lucky to have the job. Last thing you need is someone smarter and more capable around challenging you.
Evidence: I was pretty bad at video games but was always in whatever the top MMO guild was on my server with some of the best loot (except that faceless shit - LOL at that).
