I follow silly traditions like Christmas not because they represent any true or accurate historical events, but because I was indoctrinated to do so as was my parents, and their parents, and so on and so on.
Holidays give us a good excuse to fulfill our sinful desires by giving us a reason to over eat, over drink, over screw, etc. etc. All of this is done under the guise of some bullshit righteous reason.
