Wizards can't consistently be in the DPS ranking every pull or every kill. If we are talking single targets, then yeah, Wizard will look good. This is why I have always HATED having wizards in groups (other than AE groups obviously).
If you have a well balanced group, a wizard offers pretty much nothing to a group. You are chain pulling creatures and they nuke once every two pulls or so and really don't offer anything. Seriously. A pet class like a Magician will offer so much more with their pet DPS than a wizard ever will.

The sad thing is, is that wizards aren't even that great on single targets. There's only so much burst damage they can do before pulling agro even when using concussion (concussion is resistable gg). I had hoped Kunark would turn it around for wizards seeing as how it was the worst class in classic, but really Kunark has just introduced another set of problems. My gripe before were resists. My gripe now is mana inefficiency and generally horrible damage output compared to melee.
The main problem is the fact that spells don't scale as well as weapons in Kunark. Monks, for example, go from dual wielding 14/28 classic weapons to 29/30 or 19/20 2hb in Kunark. Wizards on the other hand go from 400 mana for 1120 damage Ice Comets to 450 mana for 1600 damage Sunstrike. WHOA BROS SIXTEEN HUNDRED DAMAGE!! This goes without talking about monks triple attack at 60 or rogues double backstab at 55. And then you get epics...
Right now, wizards are fairly horrible. It wouldn't be half as bad if rains were working correctly though, but yeah, that's the final nail in the coffin as far as i'm concerned. I got my lvl 9 iksar monk with a Tstaff, he's winning the game as we speak. F wizards.
