I have gotten wind from numerous credible sources that a significant breakthrough in personal computing power is happening and so it would be a mistake to drop a couple K on a new rig only to have the current tech massively overtaken in 6 months.

There is always a faster PC 6 months down the road but who spends a couple thousand for a gaming PC? I built my 8 core system with 16 gigs of ram for less than $500. Still need a vid card but even if I spend $400 on it I wont go over $1000 in total.
Hell, I'll build you a gaming rig that will make you shit your pants for 2k :P Of course, I will be pocketing $800 as a stupidity tax.
