What does an octopus symbolize?
"An octopus symbolizes complexity, diversity, mystery, vision, intelligence, illusion, variability and insight. An octopus can camouflage itself when it feels threatened, and can avoid the dangers as it creates an illusion by blending into the surroundings. Octopus are invertebrates. They don't have a spine and that makes them very agile and flexible.
They can disengage a limb when under attack. The limb grows back after some time which is why these sea creatures are also associated with the quality of regeneration. What can we learn from these attributes? Well, just as an octopus can adapt to the various situations, we must also learn to respond intelligently. Though an octopus stays in water, it is a bottom dweller. It stays grounded in spite of staying in water.
In symbolic terms, this has a deeper meaning that pertains to our inner self. The ability to disengage a limb also has a deeper connotation. This is to remind ourselves that we can detach ourselves from the addictions and the bad habits that put us in difficult situations."
