Troll Regen is pretty nice, but not essential, especially for someone who is playing pretty casually.
I'd say that druids come into their own a bit earlier than shamans, and are a much cheaper class to level, but both can solo well from early on ( although I find that shamans soloability takes a bit of a hit from 15-24ish). You'll have lots of fun, good luck out there!
