generally speaking, exception to the rule imo.
I used to think this too, until I got older and found how I related to cats changed. I am now more patient, and I also do not try to use old methods of disciplining them.

When I was younger, I learned from my parents how to interact with cats, as well as discipline them and I was using force and intimidation as my primary method, as you see people do with dogs sometimes which I think is wrong too.

Once I grew up, and learned on my own how to properly relate to cats, as well as discipline them with positive reinforcement and not "spankings" my enjoyment of cats has only grown.

I really seemed to have unlocked a key to making the cats happier as well as my relationship with them far surpass any I ever had as a child or younger person with cats.

I have had 3 cats since I became woke to cat behavior and how to treat them, and these three different cats ALL show or showed remarkable loyalty and outward affection and love for me. I can't express how loyal these cats were/are.

TL;DR

Cats are misunderstood by many people and treated improperly as pets. As a result, many people miss out on the amazing true qualities cats possess.
