I dont know all american TV Channels / news stations etc., but some of those news station which I saw seems to be more like a "show" then a news channel.
But thats just a very "rough"(?) assessment from me, since my opinion is based only on some Youtube videos.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that News channels do not need to contain real news awhile back. It was a lawsuit on whether a news channel can advertise itself as a news channel and not contain any news or something along those lines. So channels are allowed to advertise themselves as "news channels" when they may be more interested in entertainment or opinion or outright propaganda. The ruling basically said news is allowed to be entertainment and refused to define what "News" is, or that there should be any creation of an institution of "News".
There is an FCC initiative right now as of Barrack 0bama's final year in office to change the way the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) regulates news channels. I forget the specifics, but its very vague language in this proposal so not many understand it.
Fox News has came out against it saying it would be abused to regulate opposing viewpoints and they are against any FCC involvement in news, even just the creation of categories for what qualifies as a "news channel" fox is 100% against.
Interestingly, the liberals did not complain about the proposal and did not cover the FCC's initiative when it was announced.
As of now the proposal status is just wait-and-see.
