Someone said to me that if you keep some salt tablets with you (available from chemists) on a long run that it's better than the all-singing, all-dancing sport/hydration drinks in terms of keeping electrolyte levels up. I'll usually just drink water during my long run, but will load up on electrolytes during the week and especially the day before. Before a marathon, I down a big jug of pedialyte the day before and another one a couple of hours before the race.

There are a number of electrolyte drink mixes that you should consume regularly if you're going to be sweating a ton during your workouts that I would recommend: UCAN Hydrate and Nuun Hydrating tablets.
