Yep - You don't want to be hidden (as hide drops on hand in as you saw and you'll get agro, and if you put hide up afterwards it will get eaten anyway), and you want to be careful about the other mobs that you aren't behind. Human error, but it happens all the time. Possible that they'll give it back :-)
