Ether has made some amazing strides, but I think it's old news now.
Crypto Cap is hovering around $110B as we speak. My advice is just do your research, go with a couple of coins and stick with them. I've been involved since 2011 and the "recent" alt market (2013 and on) has added a nice robust flavor to bitcoin. You have to be very careful because of crazy volatility, much much more than day traders of old. Just look at Bitswift today (218% increase in 24 hours).
