You can pull mobs through locked doors. You can pull casters without getting ice cometed.

This. Also, you can pull while sitting (medding). Very useful for places like furies where you could spend quite a bit of time just running around and not medding. Also useful for pulling other rooms in dungeons without moving (and potentially losing) your camp.
There are many benefits to this, at least in my opinion.
