There were Aryans. They took over Iran and India and most of Europe. They probably contributed nothing genetically and a great deal linguistically (check out Latin and Sanskrit).
That doesn't mean anything. Iran simply means "land of the Aryans," which is what they called their country. I say they, because Iran has been invaded by Arabs, Turks, and mongols since then. Who knows if those people were genetically similar or dissimilar to me. I don't really know and I don't care. Regardless, the culture was passed down, the name Iran is ancient, hitler had nothing to do with it

He formally changed the international name to Iran because, as I said, PERSIA is a Greek word and no one has ever called Iran that from within the country. I have no idea what they called it prior to the Sassanian period, probably Iranistan, Eranistan, Iranshahr, Aryana, I have no clue. That said, the name "Iran" is roughly 1800 years old and is attested in some of the earliest written Sassanian sources
Here's the thing: the Medes and Persians had ancestors who were horseman and who preferred oral traditions to writing. The Persians never tried to replace either Greek or Aramaic as lingua francas or writing systems because they didn't give a fuck and thought that those things were feminine. The Sassanians wanted to modernize AND, probably more importantly, they wanted to codify Zoroastrian liturgy since they were way more authoritarian and centralized than the Parthian Arsacid dynasty that preceded them (and continued to rule Armenia). NEWAYZ, my point is, as soon as there was a Persian form of writing you start seeing "Iran" pop up contemporaneously with Greek sources referring to it as "Persia". It's possible that the name Iran precedes the name Persia but wasn't written down
