Bite the bullet OP, bards aren't noted for their melee dps...and its not hard to pick up some cheap banded type armor to get going with. The biggest obstacle will be having enough plat for a song each level (not to mention having to travel around to get them

So just grab a low grade weapon and start slashing with it, everyone is watching your songs more than anything
