The reason these people are desperately trying to make the case that Europe is in ruins, quite simply, is because their worldview is powered predominantly by hatred of liberals and non-whites, and there's no bigger threat to their fragile little schemas than a place where liberalism and inclusiveness are working. You'll never catch them admitting that liberalism worked anywhere, at any time, even when the facts support it (FDR's New Deal, the Nordic Miracle, the economic effects of German & Italian Fascism (this was liberal economics), the superiority of state-run hybrid healthcare systems, etc).
